Celine Dion Biography, a little bit about Celine Dion
Céline Marie Claudette Dion, (born March 30 1968) is a Canadian Grammy, Juno, and Oscar award-winning pop singer and occasional songwriter. Dion became an adolescent star in Francophone Canada after her manager and future husband, René Angélil, mortgaged his home in order to finance her career. She also gained recognition in parts of Europe and Asia by winning both the 1982 Yamaha World Song Festival and the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest, and established a foothold in the Anglophone music market with the release of her first English album, Unison (1990) published by Sony Records. The youngest in a musical family from rural Quebec, Céline Dion's singing career started early. As a teenager, she was already a popular recording artist in Japan and Europe. Dion's version of the Disney song "Beauty and the Beast" catapulted her to international fame, followed by the albums "The Colour of My Love" (1993) and "Deux" (1995). In 1996 the Grammy-winning album "Falling Into You" cemented her reputation for sultry love ballads. In just over five years she sold 50 million records worldwide. After a much-publicized pregnancy, Dion gave birth to a son, Rene Charles, on January 25, 2001. Céline has had good fortune at the movies, with hits from Beauty and the Beast, Sleepless in Seattle and Titanic. In 1993, Dion indicated to the public that she was romantically involved with her manager by declaring him "the colour of her love" in the dedication section of her third Anglophone album, The Colour of My Love. But instead of critisizing their relationship as she had feared, fans happily accepted and embraced the couple. Eventually, they became engaged and had an extravagant wedding ceremony in December 1994. As it was dedicated to her manager, the album's motif centered on "love" and "romance", most exponent in the chart-topper, "The Power of Love" (a remake of Jennifer Rush's 1985 hit) and "When I Fall In Love", a duet with Clive Griffin. The album established her success in Europe; "Think Twice" became the fourth single by a female artist to sell in excess of one million copies in the United Kingdom.[7] For five consecutive weeks, the song and album stood on top of the respective British charts, an achievement not replicated since 1965 and the heyday of The Beatles. "Think Twice" remained at number one for two more weeks. Read More...
